A Bright Future for Texas

The 2017 Economic Outlook Conference “Fully Charged: Moving Forward” was hosted by The Woodlands Area of Commerce on Friday, January 27 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott and Conference Center. Hundreds attended the conference as businesses, organizations, state and local representatives, and members of the community gathered to listen to “the largest line up of speakers in the 31 year history of the conference,” as noted by JJ Hollie, The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO.

Before the event, Zach Richmond of Richmond Realty shared that, “This is one of my favorite events of the year. We are going to hear from economists, The Woodlands Development Company, EDP, and everything that is in the pipeline for The Woodlands and the surrounding areas.”

The day began with the popular “Community Update” then had area leaders including Texas State Senator Brandon Creighton, followed by Gil Staley, Chief Executive Officer of The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership. Alex Sutton and Tim Welbes, Co-Presidents of The Woodlands Development Company, Gordy Bunch, Chairman of The Woodlands

Township and U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady of the 8th District completed the community update. “We have the building blocks for the future,” stated Gil Staley. The community update included previews of upcoming projects such as the Lake Woodlands North Retail Development, a proposed 68,000 sq ft retail space coming soon to The Woodlands. The morning keynote speaker, presented by Stibbs & Co., PC Attorneys, was Heidi Cruz, the Managing Director of the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs and wife of Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hegar concluded the conference as the keynote luncheon speaker presented by Cypressbrook Company. Elected in November 2014, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar serves as Texas’ treasurer, check writer, tax collector, procurement officer and revenue estimator who proudly shared that “Texas is now the 10th largest economy of the world.” Matt Arceneaux of Great Works Office, a new coworking space in The Woodlands opening in 2017, shared a recap stating that, “it was amazing to meet the participants and hear about the state of the economy from multiple organizations.

To hear about our economy not only on a high level, but here locally in our community from each of the speakers was very valuable and beneficial.” This event was sponsored by The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, Cypressbrook Company, Stibbs & Co., PC Attorneys, Mercedes Benz of The Woodlands, Lone Star Corporate College, The Woodlands Development Company, Wright Business Technologies, and Strike, LLC. Hello Woodlands was proud to be a media sponsor and support this year’s Economic Outlook Conference in our community.
